Computer scientist Syed Akhter is the Dean of Canadian University

Prominent computer scientist, columnist and technology consultant Professor Syed Akhter Hossain has joined as the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at the Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB). The professor, who joined CUB on Saturday, the first day of the Christian New Year, has also been appointed as the head of the computer science and engineering (CSE) department of the institute. Earlier, Syed Akhter was the Professor and Head of the CSE Department of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) from the first day of the outgoing year. Prior to that, he worked at Daffodil International University from 2010 to 2020. Syed Akhter Hossain graduated from The University of Rajshahi in 1989 with a degree in Applied Physics and in 1991 with a master's degree. He got the gold medal for getting the first place in the faculty. Syed Akhter obtained his PhD degree from Dhaka University in 2008. He later did post-doctoral research in computer science and engineering on automation and artificial intelligence from the University of Lumiere in France. Professor Akhter is working closely with the ICT department under the government's Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and ICT. She has received numerous national and international awards for his outstanding contributions to ICT education and his innovative projects for the visually impaired. He has won several international awards for his role in machine translation for Bengali Braille used by the visually impaired. Professor Syed Akhter received the Best Researcher Award from Daffodil University in 2019 and 2020. Topics of interest in his research include natural language processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).
